Summary
Family law associates at Henson Efron work closely with and have the opportunity to learn from
some of the most highly rated family law attorneys in Minnesota. The individual in this position
will have a high‐level of client interaction and will team with our more experienced attorneys
and staff to deliver excellence to our clients. This role requires a detail‐oriented person who is a
self‐starter with excellent communication skills, both written and oral, and a professional
demeanor. Also required are strong organization and problem‐solving skills, the ability to set and
manage priorities, and meet deadlines. The position requires 1‐3 years of relevant experience
with dissolution, custody, and post‐decree family law matters.

Duties and Responsibilities within first 1‐2 years. Responsibilities grow with experience.
 Draft initial pleadings, motion pleadings, mediation statements, and case correspondence
 Prepare and respond to informal and formal discovery requests
 Work directly with clients to collect and review relevant information and documents
 Conduct legal research and analyses, draft legal memoranda
 Prepare for and attend mediations
 Assist with family law appellate litigation
 Additional duties as required

Minimum Requirements:
 Exceptional written and oral communication skills
 Strong analytical, decision‐making, problem‐solving and organization skills
 Proven ability to effectively handle multiple projects with different timelines
 Ability to develop and implement legal strategies
 Ability to interface directly with attorneys and clients and to convey complex concepts clearly
 Demonstrate an ability to work independently and productively
 Strong interpersonal skills
 This position will require the individual to have access to confidential records and
information. To successfully perform this position, confidentiality of the information with
which the individual has contact must be maintained.

Education and Experience
 Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school with strong academic credentials
 One to three years of experience with a law firm or clerking for a judicial officer (family court
clerking experience preferred)
 Licensed to practice in MN and bar membership in good standing

Work Environment and Physical Demands
 Flexible work environment
 Ability to work overtime on occasion, if needed, to meet position responsibilities and
deadlines
 Ability to work between core office hours of 8:00 am to 5:30 pm Monday – Friday
 While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit or stand for extended
periods of time, occasionally move, reach, bend, kneel, crouch or crawl. Ability to lift up to
25 lbs and occasionally up to 50 lbs
