The role
This is a job for an experienced business or nonprofit attorney who wants to keep practicing and also wants to build something. If developing newer attorneys is the part of your work you most enjoy, this role makes it a formal part of the job.
You will carry your own matters, supervise our staff attorneys and legal interns, and help shape how a regional pro bono program delivers its services. You set the standard for the legal work, you are the person our staff and volunteers come to with the hard questions, and your judgment shapes what thousands of clients across Minnesota and the surrounding states receive. If you meet most of these and are interested in this work, we encourage you to apply. We would rather read your cover letter and have a conversation.
Helpful, but not required. Experience advising tax-exempt organizations on governance and compliance. Formal supervisory or team leadership experience; if you have mentored newer attorneys in an informal capacity, tell us about it, because that experience counts here. Knowledge of Minnesota resources available to entrepreneurs, small businesses, inventors, and nonprofits. Public speaking and legal education experience. A language in addition to English, particularly Spanish, Hmong, or Somali.
