Paralegal - Creditors' Remedies

Winthrop & Weinstine is seeking a Paralegal to provide support to our Creditors' Remedies Group. This position offers flexibility with the option to work from either Minneapolis or St. Cloud, MN. The responsibilities for this position will include, but not limited to:

  • Develop file organization for commercial loan enforcement cases.
  • Conduct legal research on debtor assets, liens, judgments, and financial history.
  • Review and analyze commercial loan documents, contracts, and financial statements.
  • Review and analyze real estate documents and title commitments.
  • Assist attorneys in drafting legal documents such as complaints, motions, and discovery requests.
  • Coordinate with process servers, investigators, and other third parties as needed.
  • Assist in the preparing of commercial foreclosure proceedings.
  • Monitor and track case deadlines and filing requirements.
  • Act as liaison between attorney and client, facilitating communication and transmittal of necessary information.
  • Stay informed about changes in relevant laws and regulations affecting creditors’ right and remedies.
  • Ensure compliance with legal and ethical standards in all activities.

 

Requirements

 

  • Four year college degree, paralegal certificate or equivalent work experience in a legal setting.
  • At least three to five years of experience as either: a litigation paralegal in a law firm, a loan officer or credit analyst for a financial institution, or a closing agent for a title company handling commercial loan closings.
  • Skill in spreadsheet, word processing, and the ability to learn other computer software.
  • Skill with interpersonal relationships and ability to effectively interact with all levels of staff and outside contacts.
  • Ability to effectively work within a team environment.
  • Skill in organizing and prioritizing of work according to timelines and importance of tasks, and following assignments through to completion.
  • Skill in written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work well under pressure with deadlines – possess a sense of urgency.
  • Ability to delegate tasks as needed to maximum uses of resources and cost-effectiveness for clients.
  • Ability to be flexible in schedule and adaptable to constant change, both on a daily basis and in discovery or trial environment.
  • Ability to effectively handle multiple tasks and frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to exercise accurate professional and legal judgment, and to understand and apply ethical standards required by the American Bar Association.
  • Job duties may require time over 37.50 hours per week.
  • Requires use of office equipment, such as computers, telephones, and copiers.
  • Requires sitting and performing computer-related activities for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to handle 20-pound (or heavier) boxes of documents, pieces of evidence and physically arrange and organize documents.
  • Ability to drive an automobile when traveling to sheriff sales or visiting clients.
